Acute and subchronic toxicity of ethylene glycol monobutyl ether.
نویسنده
چکیده
The available information on the acute and subchronic toxicity of ethylene glycol monobutyl ether is reviewed. Data from animal studies have been examined from the standpoint of dose-response relationships and the sensitivity of various animal species, including man, to the effects of this chemical. In view of recent findings with other chemically related glycol ethers, particular attention has been given to possible adverse effects on blood and testicular tissue. In evaluating the hazard that this chemical may pose to man, consideration has been given to likely routes of exposure and its irritant properties. It is concluded that the available information continues to support the current ACGIH TWA8-TLV of 25 ppm with a STEL of 75 ppm.

Toxic effects of some alcohol and ethylene glycol derivatives on Cladosporium resinae.
Eleven commercially available alcohol and ethylene glycol derivatives were tested for their toxicity toward a problem organism in jet fuel, Cladosporium resinae. In the presence of glucose, 20% (vol/vol) ethylene glycol monomethyl ether prevented spore germination and mycelial growth, and 10% (vol/vol) 2-ethoxybutanol, 10% 2-isopropoxyethanol, 10% 3-methoxybutanol, 5% 2-butyloxyethanol, 5% ethy...
متن کاملExperimental studies on toxicity of ethylene glycol alkyl ethers in Japan.
Past studies on the toxicological effects of ethylene glycol alkyl ethers as well as the recent data on these chemicals in Japan are reviewed. Only a few researchers have participated in the study of ethylene glycol alkyl ethers in Japan. The effects of ethylene glycol alkyl ethers on testis and embryotoxic effects of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGM) have been studied, as has the teratoge...
متن کاملClinical evaluation of pediatric ethylene glycol monobutyl ether poisonings.
Ethylene glycol butyl ether, CAS 111-76-2, an ingredient in many popular commercial window/glass cleaners, is known to produce equal if not greater toxicity than ethylene glycol when administered to animals. Treatment recommendations for human poisonings are based upon animal data and include the use of ethanol therapy to inhibit the production of toxic metabolites. No human experiential data e...
متن کاملEthylene glycol monomethyl ether and propylene glycol monomethyl ether: metabolism, disposition, and subchronic inhalation toxicity studies.
Short-term and subchronic vapor inhalation studies have shown that there are pronounced differences in the toxicological properties of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME) and propylene glycol monomethyl ether (PGME). Overexposure to EGME has resulted in adverse effects on testes, bone marrow and lymphoid tissues in laboratory animals. PGME does not affect these tissues, and instead, overexp...

A liquid membrane containing diethylene glycol monobutyl ether (2) shows specificity for K ion in transport while diethylene glycol dibutyl ether (1) was selective for Na over K . As an extractant, ligand 2 exhibited pronounced extraction selectivity for K over Na in comparison with ligand 1
